July 17, 2010, 192 hours, 57 days, (now 1 year and counting )

We are now entering into our second year... we really thought we would have been done before now, but just being able to get together 3 hours or so a week, you can only get so much done. Today we worked on masts, sprits, rudder, front hatch, and the center board cover. Same old stuff... varnishing, sanding, painting. This stage is going slow due to the several coats of varnish that has to be applied, sanded, and applied again. We are making progress.

The sail-sprits are made of spruce lumber. We had to rip a 10 foot board, and then shape it into somewhat of a rounder form. The spruce is really light and pretty wood. We re-sanded the mast joints, and reapplied fiberglass. I painted the rudder assembly, but this will have to be re-sanded and repainted. The paint didn't apply properly. The centerboard cover will need several more coats of varnish. Our plans are to start working on the bunk-floor boards, and to continue rudder assembly and other hardware assembly. The front hatch is complete with hardware and looks good.
